About the District

Sonitpur is an important administrative district of Assam with its headquarters located at Tezpur town. Both the names – Sonitpur and Tezpur are refereed to as “city of blood”.

Sonitpur district is spread on north bank of the river Brahmaputra. It is bounded by the state of Arunachal Pradesh in The North, Morigaon, Nagaon, Jorhat and Golaghat districts of Assam in the South, Lakhimpur district in the South and Darrang district in the West. In terms of area Sonitpur is the second largest district of Assam after Karbi Anglong district.
